My daughter turns 9 tomorrow, and I am so proud of the girl she has become. She is loving, kind, giving, creative, smart…I know, moms say these things, but I am so very proud of her.

She is the best big sister to her brothers. She is more patient with her three-year old brother than I am sometimes. It is something beautiful to watch. She helps homeschool her 6 year old brother, and she is an amazingly patient teacher with him.

I wanted for her to have a wonderful birthday. She chose to have a small party with just a few of her friends. She wanted to make it a sewing party. I was a bit panicky at this idea because, sure I can ‘sew’, but I can’t really. Cutting out and putting together doll clothes patterns is not my area of expertise, even though I am working on it. After a day of cleaning and making the food, I finally said, “Hey, why don’t we just sew skirts for the dolls.”I was so grateful she said yes!

So, her two friends came over and they got to work in our little sewing room.

What I discovered right away is that my daughter can sew. She has been listening to the limited instructions I have been teaching her, and she turned right around and taught her friends. She encouraged them, and assisted them when they needed it. In the end, they ran out of time to make a skirt for her doll, but she was OK with that. She was happy that her friends were able to go home with new skirts for their dolls. That is my daughter.

This afternoon, she spent the day sewing. She sewed a variety of skirts and a pair of pajamas for her doll. They came out beautiful, don’t you think?

So, happy birthday to my beautiful daughter. These last 8 years have been amazing. I can’t wait to see what our future holds.
